Happy Valentines Day!

It is definitely evident that it is Valentines day today. This morning the skytrain was riddled with bright pink, heart covered newspapers in everyone's hands. If anyone forgot the date they will definitely be reminded just stepping outside today! (So no excuses men!) hehe

I spent the morning going through my etsy shop and gathered some of my top pieces for Valentines day. There is definitely a red, pink and heart theme here!

All Things Pink

I just listed this new set of earrings and a matching necklace on Etsy.

They remind me of cranberry cosmopolitans, mmm!

Summer and juicy grapefruits,

A fresh face with a tiny bit of pink lip gloss

and everything that summer brings...
The fun,
The heat,
The joy
and the treats!

(Popsicles maybe)

Home Decor

I have been temped to totally redecorate my living room lately! Here are some things I think would look great in my home!

By: Red Hot Pottery
I keep seeing this around etsy... and I think it is so cute!
By: Nou Wall
I love the calming forest vibe this wall decal gives!

By: Laura Lights
This lamp looks like it would give the perfect amount of light for reading next to! I love the pattern too.

By: Bacon Square Farm
This table is absolutely gorgeous! I live the flower and the leaves in the middle. I think this table would totally complete a room!

By: Bestillshop
There is nothing like a bright pop of colour in a room and a good way to ad that is with throw cushions.

By: Water Bears
A room is never complete without some art! Aren't those little characters cute?

Iceland Hot Springs

After making the earrings above they instantly reminded me of the hot springs in Iceland. With the light blue glow and the dark black rocks my earrings almost resemble the hot springs to a T. The hot spring pictured below is called Blue Lagoon so that is where the name for these earrings came from.

Beautiful isn't it!

Creativity After Dark

I am in love with gemstones and metal and the things that I can make with them!

Have you ever had those moments where you lock your self in your studio and stay up till dawn just making things? Those are the best! And it seems that I am the most inspired in the middle of the night. Who knows why… maybe its the quiet. Maybe it's the sole fact that I can't be disturbed. While staying up all night poses some problems of tiredness and fatigue in the morning when my two year old wakes up I still love doing it. Here are some pieces that I made after sun went down!

Handmade Comfort and Style

Everyone needs that piece of clothing in their wardrobe that can be worn with just about anything. I love shopping on Etsy for gifts and of course things for my self. I want to share that experience with you so I have put together some cute outfits below. All from Etsy!In this picture... Sleepy Moon Elliptic necklace in sterling silver. This necklace is a great little everyday necklace for the woman on the go. You can literally fly out the door with out thinking because it is going to match anything you are wearing. Art Affect Everyday Pencil Skirt is the perfect staple piece for your wardrobe. I can't tell you how many times I have thrown on a simple pencil skirt with my shirt either tucked in or loose. It looks great!

In this picture... Conscious Clothing Striped Hemp Racerback Cowl Dress This dress looks super comphy and I can't live without a dress like this. They are easy to wear and can be paired with leggings, a belt or even jacket for a whole new look. Be Something New Brown Leather Flower Headband This head band is super cute while still being neutral with the browns and light blues. I bought my first headband on Etsy and I am hooked. I am especially excited to have it for the summer because it will be so easy to keep my hair out of my face in the hot weather!

Spring Inspired Jewellery

Yesterday was a beautiful spring day. I went for a walk with my camera and found so many beautiful plants growing everywhere I looked. Among these plants were these vibrant red flowers. I ended up taking this picture of them.
Many of the pictures I took inspired me to create some springy jewellery, but the red flowers and blue sky spoke to me the most!!
I decided to make a multi gemstone cluster necklace that features genuine red ruby and a blue chalcedony gemstone all wire wrapped in sterling silver. The ruby is abosolutely gorgeous just like the red flowers and the blue hold the same moody contrast that the sky has in the photo.

Mother's Day

I know it is a bit early to be thinking about this, but in order to receive your mother's day orders before Mother's Day, orders must be placed by April 30th. Here are some suggestions for mother's day gifts, but I am sure anything in my shop would be loved by a mother somewhere!

Etsy Finds: Early Bird or Night Owl?

I was doing my daily routine this Saturday, list some items on Etsy, make a new bracelet and renew a couple of things when I start to get a whole pile of sales!! I thought, well hey maybe everyone just got their tax returns. Cool! Then I happened to look at the who hearts this shop page and I see that I got over 100 new hearts today!!! That is when I found out that I was featured in ones of the Etsy Finds post on the Etsy Blog. And of course closely followed was a happy dance! :)

The feature was called "Early Bird or Night Owl?" there were early bird items on the left and night owl items on the right. My Midnight Moon necklace was one of the night owl items!!! It sold right away which is very exciting.

If I were to choose early bird or night owl I would have to choose night owl. I always seem to be way more creative and I love the peacefulness of the night. There is something about the cool crisp air on a summer night that is so energizing. Which one are you early bird or night owl?

NOTE: I am all out of this necklace, but I will be getting some more mystic quartz soon.

Tribut To Vanocuver's Creativity

I missed the treasury opening AGAIN because my computer was being slow, but I was so excited to share this collection of items made by Vancouver designers and Vancouver related items that I have to share it here!

I thought of making this treasury this morning when I turned on the TV so my son could watch cartoons and saw the torch being run past my old apartment in downtown Vancouver!! :) I though hey why not showcase some of Vancouver's talent in the spirit of the Olympics.

For The Lush February's Child

"Amethyst
is a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry. The name comes from the Ancient Greek a- ("not") and methustos ("intoxicated"), a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness; the ancient Greeks and Romans wore amethyst and made drinking vessels of it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication." -Wikipedia

According to the Romans ancient beliefs I can drink as much as I want and never have to worry about making a fool of my self as long as I am wearing amethyst of course! :) So for all those gin and tonic lovers I give you a lovely collection of amethyst jewellery for those crazy nights out.

Lofty Goal

The recent disaster in Haiti has got me thinking about donating a percentage of my sales to a worthy cause. Sadly, until I increase my sales, I am not in a position to make cash donations. I am only just starting to make ends meet myself.

So that brings me to my goal. I plan on working very hard to boost my sales and market like mad so that in the end I can not only make more money, but do some good in the world.

When (and if) my sales boost or become steady I will hold a promotion every year where 5$ from each sale will be donated. I was thinking if I donated to a breast cancer awareness charity I could hold the sale during breast cancer awareness month. Or, on Mother's day, I could donate to a young mother's shelter. Maybe it would change every year... we will see. I think it would also be really great if I could just spend the money on food for the food bank. Healthy stuff of course!

If you had the chance to donate to any cause you could what would you donate to?

Virtual Hamdmade Market

booth at virtual handmade marketI came across this new site that has a virtual handmade market while I was was strolling the twittersphere last week. As you can see from the picture above I grabbed a booth. I could not help my self it is only a 2$ charge for a whole week. I assume this is because the site is still in beta and not many people know about it yet. Still why not try it out. What do you think about this virtual handmade market?

The Handmade Market is sponsored by Yaami Handmade.

Defining My Mission

It's the time of year to assess past goals, celebrate successes and establish new goals. With that in mind, I've decided that this year I will be trying some new things with my blog. I'm really excited to share what you can expect from the Sleepy Moon blog in the future:
It's been a goal of mine to build this blog into a busy and bustling place where you can find helpful information, ask questions, read inspiring posts and be part of a community. I'll be sharing posts about my creative process along with my achievements and (hopefully not too many) failures. I will also share tons of up-and-coming artist's work. I love to show off how inspired the artisans in the Etsy community are.

I know that I like to read blogs that have tutorials and help me with my business, but I also like to read about the artist behind the blog and behind the art. What type of blogs do you like to read? I would love to hear some feedback.
