Advertising Reviews # 2

Here are some more reviews on advertising for your Etsy shop!

#1
Cafe Handmade
I get my self a 4 week slot in the Cafe Handmade show and I have to say it was good at first, but now I am lost in the pile of new people joining the craft show. So while it is a really good price for the 4 week slot I think buying the one week slot is more worth your money!

#2
Carousel ad on Craft Cult
The people who run craft cult are really friendly and very helpful! I would have to say that I liked the carousel ad. I am torn between weather I like the carousel or the side bar better. I think they were both beneficial to my traffic and views. The carousel ad is definitely easier if you do not have the time or skills to make a side bar as. All you have to do is send them some links and they do the work for you.

Find Inspiration

A great place to find inspiration and learn new things is at the library! Everyone has one and every one has hopefully been there at some point in time. So next time you are there check out the art and craft section! Below is some scanned pages of a book that I found called "Adorn New Jewelry" by Amanda Mansell
I liked this book because it is filled with things like this CRAZY big earring! Things like this inspire me to think outside the box and be unique! I love it!

I think these long earrings are really cool.. I wonder if people would wear them?
The necklace on the left is so fun! I like the detail with the beads on the chain. I will definitely have to work something like that into a design of mine! :)

Art For Lunch

Designing in Style!

I am now rocking my new work space with my newly purchased Ikea headboard as a table! Check it out!...
I bought the headboard from the as-is department for 10 bucks and the legs were each 5. The table is way bigger than my old one! Ok exactly 6ft instead of 4ft!

I am excited to get working on some new designs. I think that my head and my table will be clearer and I will be more able to concentrate! I also want to decorate the room with all the cool things I can find at craft fairs and on Etsy! I love to have art and creativity all around me. It helps with inspiration too!

So...What are your studios like?

My Christmas Donation

I have been away from the computer this past week, but that doesn't mean that I have not been busy! I have been working on some necklaces that I will be donating as Christmas presents to the women in Bethany house. Bethany house is a young women's shelter for women who are pregnant or have new babies. It is located in Saskatoon Saskatchewan which is where I am from.
This is what the necklaces look like. The black stone is glass and makes this necklace a great statement piece! The chain is a silver plated ball chain that is 16" long but can be extended to 20"s. The chain was graciously donated to me by a supplier on Etsy called ImJewellee
Here are the necklaces all packaged up! I hope all the girls love their gifts this year!

Why Do You Love Handmade?

I believe that we should support handmade because it is a beautiful thing! All the wonderful designers put their hearts into their work because they are truly passionate about it, they also assure great quality and craftsmanship and are able to create something of meaning rather than a mass produced baby blanket from wal-mart or pair of earrings from the drug store. Buying handmade is a great way to keep the culture alive and the creativity flowing!

So... why do you love handmade? Please share your opinions! We would all love to know!

Reviews On Places to Advertise

If you are thinking about paying for advertising, but you don't want to take the risk of wasting your money, here are three places I have tried and a review on each one.

Etsy show case
The Etsy show cases cost either 7.00 or 15.00 which isn't to bad, but they don't always work out. I have purchased about 10 of them and sometimes I got a lot of views, but no sales. I got the most views when I sat at the computer all day and kept switching the item that was in the show case ever hour.

Cost: 7$ to 15$ for one day.

Over all: The Etsy show case is not rated high on my list of places to advertise. The place you want to be is the front page!
Craftster.com
Craftser has a huge audience about
850,000+ readers and 8.5 million page views per month! Though I did not get any sales from this add. I did like that they offered a page where you could view your clicks and impressions. I got about 1 click per ever 2000 impressions. Sounds terrible right... well not to terrible. I ended up getting about 150 clicks by the end of my 5 day period.

Cost: 25$ for 5 days, 35$ for 7 days, 70$ for 14 days. I got an Etsy discount which was announced in the Etsy newsletter. It was 19$ for 5 days.

Over all: I probably would not advertise with craftster again, but I think that it would be good for someone selling smaller lower priced objects. Jewellery is always hard to sell because it is not a necessity.

Craft Cult
I really liked advertising with craft cult! The prices were not to high and I did get a lot of traffic through my shop. I would get a craft cult add around the holidays like mother's day, Christmas or Valentines day. Then more people will be actually looking to buy and it might turn all those views into sales.

Cost:
Side bar ad: 15$ for 7 days or 55$ for 4 weeks
Carousal ad: 15$ for 4 days or 25$ for 7 days

Over all: I loved advertising here! It was not disappointing at all I even gained a really great customer from it! Though you do have to make your own add images and size them. Which not every one can do. If any one wants to advertise, but does not know how to use photo shop I would be happy to help them make a simple image. Or you could probably find someone selling that service on Etsy. Just search "advertising image". You are bound to find someone in the sea of Etsians.

If you have advertised with any of these places or other please share you experiences with us, I would love to here all bout it!

Craft Show Purchases!

I was a vendor at a craft show in Point Grey school yesterday (Saturday) and I had a great time! I thought I would share some of the cool stuff I bought.
I bought these little magnets from A Cagey Bee. I love her art! The magnets are only about 1 inch by 1 inch though they look like big paintings in the picture.
You can find original art work in her Etsy shop here.
This is great soap! I got Licorice, Lemon Tree, Nitty Gritty and some Vanilla Grapefruit bath salt. Can't wait to have a bath! You can go to Busye Bodye's website to find out more about these lovely soaps! Go here.

I also got some chocolate zucchini bread but that is long gone so I couldn't take a picture of it! I just have to say... it was good!

Art For Lunch

This week on Art For Lunch we have these two art prints
from Kat Hannah on Etsy.

Here we have, Im Off to See the World
The boy looks so pensive. Maybe he is a bit sad or hesitant to go out into the world. Even though he looks sad he is still very cute and that is why I love this painting.
Here we have, Letting Go
This painting also has a sadness quality, but is meant to help you move on and become stronger! As the artist says, "This work symbolizes letting go of thoughts or actions which may hold you down."

Also check out some of her other art prints like:
Jataime
or
Here We Go

Art For Lunch stays up for a whole week!
Remember to check back next Friday for more
amazing art and talent!
If you have some art that you really like please put a link to it in the comments and I will consider it for next weeks Art for Lunch!

Eco Friendly Wrapping Ideas

ECO FRIENDLY GIFT WRAPPING

If you are a seller on Etsy or of any kind or maybe you are an ordinary, every day gift giver. If you are you will love all these eco friendly wrapping ideas that I am going to share with you.

Less Is More, More Is Less
You might have known someone or been someone who wrapped their presents in 15 or 20 layers of wrapping paper just to watch the persons face while they unwrapped it. I know I was and it was fun, but times have changed and simplicity and style are better than Santa Claus paper and reindeer patterns. Try simple brown paper with some ribbon or a pretty plain colour of paper.

Don't Throw It Out
Instead of throwing all of your scrap fabric out you could sew it together and make cool patchwork wrapping "paper" out of it. Or you could use your old news papers that you might other wise have thrown out or better recycled it! Think... it's like giving the gift of being kind to the earth for Christmas.

Reduce Reuse And Recycle

To reduce your supplies in wrapping you can forget about the tape and just use ribbon to hold the paper closed. To reuse you can use old fabric to wrap your gifts. I have to say this method is probably one of the most creative and elegant looking ideas. Check out this VIDEO for some how too's. And if you are reducing and reusing when wrapping your gifts this year you are recycling!

Add A Touch Of Colour
For all the brown paper and newspaper you use you can always add a touch of colour with some nice ribbon. I like to use brown jewellery boxes for my necklaces and tie some turquoise and white ribbon around with a little tag attached that says to and from. I also have a hand drawing on each tag done by my mom who is a great artist!

Please feel free to share any of your ideas as well! I would love to here them!
