Bubbles on the Beach

I loved this video of massive bubbles that almost look magical. It reminded me of this one necklace that I made last week. The conceptual drop pendant. It almost looks like a big bubble in the midst of being blown.

Pussy Willow Bracelet

As I mentioned before I have been working on a pussy willow necklace, but it isn't a necklace any more it is a bracelet!
pussy willow necklaceThe bracelet features a pussy willow branch that I hand cut out of brass. I gave the brass an aged look for a more natural feel to the piece.
nature jewelryThe rest of the bracelet features a strand of tiny faceted hematite rounds. I wire wrapped each gemstone individually which takes quite a lot of focus and time. Which brings me to the reason why it is not a necklace any more, it's a bracelet... As I was working away at wire wrapping the vision of a bracelet and less wire wrapping I would have to do popped into my head. I do think that this piece works better as a bracelet in the end and my shop is in need of bracelets!

Check out the necklace in my etsy shop.

Everyday, Dates, Dancing , Work... What?

This necklace is pretty simple and easy to wear, but it has amazing sparkle and shine too!
So I ask you this...

What kind of outfit would you wear this necklace with?

I could see my self wearing this with just about everything because it is a great colour. I also think that it would transition well from a chic day outfit with jeans to a cute evening out fit. The necklace is a very sparkly eye catcher!

As The Sun Sets

While vacationing in my home town Saskatoon SK I didn't end up taking to many pictures due to the short amount of time I had to visit my family. Busy Busy Busy! But one of those few pictures I did take was the one above. It is a typical Saskatchewan prairie sunset. Makes me miss home...but then I remember the mountains, warm winters, ocean and everything else that Vancouver has to offer! :) Of course I will always consider Saskatoon one of my two homes.

Anyways I wanted to create a piece of jewellery that represented the beauty of the prairie sky. Just like this photo does. (Oh by the way the photo was taken from a basement window!) Cool hey! The Necklace shown below is what I came up with. It features blue and black speckled Peruvian opal, orange garnet, rose quartz and tiny black hematite rounds all wire wrapped and strung from sterling silver chain.
This necklace is now available in my Etsy Shop!

Tangled

Every woman or spouse of that woman has come across a very tangled necklace mess! Sometimes the necklace easily slips out of the knot with a bit of luck, but sometimes the outcome is not as lucky and those beautiful treasures get lost in the bottom of the jewellery box. What a shame right?

Well...the other day I was researching ways to untangle chain and I came across several short and simple posts that I thought I should share.

How to Untangle Jewelry
How to Untangle a Necklace
Untangling Necklaces

Some of the best pointers from all of these articles I think are the parts about using a straight pin. It small and super handy for getting into the tiny knots. Fingers are just way to big! Also always remember when untangling a necklace take it slow the last thing you want to do is pull it and make the knot tighter!

Spring Inspired Jewellery

Yesterday was a beautiful spring day. I went for a walk with my camera and found so many beautiful plants growing everywhere I looked. Among these plants were these vibrant red flowers. I ended up taking this picture of them.
Many of the pictures I took inspired me to create some springy jewellery, but the red flowers and blue sky spoke to me the most!!
I decided to make a multi gemstone cluster necklace that features genuine red ruby and a blue chalcedony gemstone all wire wrapped in sterling silver. The ruby is abosolutely gorgeous just like the red flowers and the blue hold the same moody contrast that the sky has in the photo.

Me Making a Heart Necklace

I am all about the hearts this winter, so I thought I would share some cool pictures that show a bit of the process of making a brushed sterling silver heart necklace.
cutting chain and jewelry toolsFirst I cut my wire and chain to the right sizes. Then I wrap the wire around a ring sizer. mandrill and wire
Once I form a heart shape using the ring sizer and pliers I have to hammer the sterling silver flat.
hammered heart with jewelry heartAfter brushing the sterling silver I clean and polish it. Now all there is left to do is put it all together.

You can expect many different heart themed items in my shop throughout January and February, and now you know a bit about what goes into making one.
